Widespread Adoption Of E-Books

digital books could be alluded to as advanced media that are like print outs. They could likewise be alluded to as books that are in electronic configuration or form yet like traditional printed books. As each part of life is by all accounts experiencing a sort of upheaval, printing enterprises are not deserted as they are additionally moving from simple to advanced occasions by offering books on the web or in other electronic arrangements. This article is going to glance and examine inside and out about issues that encompass its across the board adoption. In the start there were not many books that were accessible in electronic arrangement as individuals were hesitant to receive them. Much of the time it is just books that were natural and in the open area were distributed as digital books however recently even new books are accessible truth be told, this mode has given new writers a stage to advertise their work. digital books expects one to have an electronic gadget, for example, a telephone or a PC to have the option to understand them and explicit programming, for example, Dedicated digital book peruser and Adobe PDF for one to have the option to understand them. (Viney, 2005).Just like it is the situation with other thing, that is having benefits and bad marks, the equivalent applies to digital books and these variables in a single manner or different influences their far reaching reception as per Bergeron and Blander (91). There are those elements that favor its selection and these are things like; you can heft around a great deal of data on an extremely straightforward gadget, for example, smaller plates and telephones. It is a lot simpler to look for data in digital books than in other conventional printouts as you can go to a particular page naturally without turning pages one after the other. Many distributers select to distribute their books in electronic structure as a result of different reasons, for example, it is less expensive to distribute digit al book than to print standard books which requires a ton of shading and work. Something else that prompts its reception overall is the way that dissimilar to standard printouts, the case is distinctive with regards to digital books as you can alter the text dimension and backdrop illumination to suit your necessities. Then again, there are those components that subvert its overall appropriation and these are things like; digital book may require web association, requires electronic gadgets, for example, telephones and computers.Again you need to get some suggested programming, for example, Adobe PDF peruser which costs more than the book itself something that hampers its boundless reception. Electronic gadgets are inclined to breaking down and along these lines can become defective whenever you wouldn't dare hoping anymore hence it isn't solid. Again this book requires electronic gadgets that utilization electrical force along these lines including the expense of having it in addit ion to it turns into a restriction to territories where there is no power. In different conditions, author’s exertion and time spent turns into a waste when their work is hacked by privateers and sold economically to readers. There are likewise reasons, for example, natural decent variety of end clients for instance digital books requires specific properties for machines for one to peruse them like explicit goals of the screen, screen size and different things (Viney, 2005). Again this book requires diverse programming for one to get to it on another machine making it expensive when you factor in the expense of the product in addition to the book itself something that obstructs on its across the board reception (Bergeron and Blander, 2002).Indeed takeoff from simple books to advanced digital books is the tallness of human advancement yet as it is the situation with new items to have no simple stream in the market, digital book has been no uncommon as there are various preventi ons that hamper its far reaching selection, for example, the requirement for explicit perusing programming that are exorbitant and electronic gadgets that devour a great deal power. In spite of this, digital book has its points of interest, for example, it is effectively open, versatile and less exorbitant with regards to distributing.

Succubus Dreams CHAPTER 26

New Year's Eve. Warren, Emerald City's proprietor, hosted tossed a stylish get-together at his home and welcomed the entire staff, alongside around fifty others. His home was gigantic, and he'd went all out. Servers worked the group. A barkeep made beverages with incredible thrive. A DJ spun music in the corner. It was likely the most intricate gathering I'd been to all year. Everybody was making some incredible memories. All things considered, aside from me, normally. Maddie and Seth were there. Together. It was weird to see them out as a couple so straightforwardly, after all the time he and I had spent concealing our relationship. Be that as it may, when she'd showed up back in Seattle a couple of days prior, she'd made no endeavors at mystery. Everybody at the store included known inside twenty-four hours, and it was as yet a wellspring of much humming and hypothesis. The general agreement was that they were adorable. What's more, watching them, I guessed that on the off chance that I weren't so personally included, I'd think they were charming as well. For the most part they made me need to go hurl the caviar I'd recently eaten. They stood along with a couple of other staff over the room, clasping hands. Maddie shined like a succubus, talking animatedly to Beth about something. Seth, spruced up for a change and looking lovely, tuned in with a little grin †however there was something serious in his eyes. He looked awkward, and I firmly presumed he'd been brought here at Maddie's asking. I didn't think he was the sort who'd come and focus on their relationship my face, yet at that point, I'd never thought he'd say a final farewell to me either. Simply at that point, he looked up to check the room and met my look. Coincidentally or deliberately, I was unable to state. We held each other's eyes for a second. His appearance became grieved, thoughtful. I don't have a clue what mine resembled. After a second, he turned his consideration back to the others. In any case, the little grin was no more. â€Å"Makes you need to brush your teeth, doesn't it?† Doug moved toward me, holding what I accepted to be his fifth rum and coke. I highlighted it. â€Å"What, all that sugar you're drinking?† He smiled. â€Å"I mean my sister and Mortensen, also you know.† I gave them one more look, at that point turned around to him. â€Å"Everyone believes they're cute.† â€Å"I surmise. I can't conclude how to feel.† He thumped back his beverage. â€Å"I mean, he's laying down with my sister, isn't that so? I should be, as, offended and need to guard her respect. Or on the other hand something. In any case, some portion of me's reasoning perhaps they'll get along so well that she'll move in with him. Furthermore, that sort of makes me†¦happy.† Ugh. Awful enough they were dating by any means. Moving in together? I was unable to try and feel that a long ways ahead. They'd just been a thing for seven days. I quietly checked to five and did whatever it takes not to state something I'd lament. â€Å"Who can say?† I mumbled ambiguously. Doug inclined his head as he respected me. â€Å"Always figured you'd be the one following him, what with your legend love and his suggestive tales about you.† He was alluding to a short story of Seth's that had showed up in a magazine not very far in the past. The unusual courageous woman bore an uncanny †and totally circumstantial †similarity to me. I could judge by his voice and face that Doug was kidding. He'd never accepted there had been anything among Seth and me. Much to his dismay how near and dear his joke hit. â€Å"Well,† I let him know. â€Å"Looks like your sister will be the one in the sexual stories now.† Doug withered. â€Å"Oh my God. I never thought of that.† He looked at his vacant glass. â€Å"I gotta get another one.† I watched him go and felt a grin pull at my lips, notwithstanding my goals to be hopeless. Furthermore, I was unquestionably working admirably at the hopeless part. I didn't move toward anybody at the gathering and just expressed a couple of words to the individuals who attempted to connect with me in discussion. I'd just turned down a few men who'd attempted to bring me a drink or get me to move. I simply needed to be separated from everyone else. Truly, I shouldn't have come. â€Å"Never thought I'd see only you at an occasion like this.† I'd felt his essence behind me before I heard him. â€Å"Carter, you party crasher. I realize you didn't get an invitation.† â€Å"Hey, I heard this was the spot to be.† â€Å"Isn't slamming one of the seven fatal †sacred shit.† The blessed messenger had stepped before me. His jaw length fair hair was washed and brushed, and he donned khakis and a blue polo shirt. The group was absolutely easygoing and furthermore the most pleasant thing I'd at any point seen him in. He snickered, realizing what had amazed me. â€Å"I couldn't appear like I generally do. I'm despite everything underdressed contrasted with you.† I had on a perfectly sized silk dress with a neckline that went as far as possible up to my neck. Dark. Like my temperament. â€Å"Yeah,† I stated, â€Å"but in case we're estimating correlation with our ordinary product, you're really great dressed individual in here.† â€Å"This is an extraordinary party,† he stated, peering toward the room. He had a beverage in his grasp that I swore he hadn't had a second back. â€Å"You don't appear as though you're having an awesome time.† I wasn't prepared to discuss that yet, not to him. Turning away my eyes, I gazed absentmindedly to where Doug was hitting on some lady around twenty years more seasoned than he was. The DJ's present tune finished, and the guitar notes of another one kicked up. â€Å"Sweet Home Alabama.† â€Å"Oh, fuck,† I said. â€Å"What?† asked Carter. â€Å"I despise this song.† â€Å"Really? I've generally enjoyed it.† I moaned. â€Å"What happened to Yasmine?† His ridiculing humor blurred. â€Å"You comprehend what befallen her. She has a place with Hell now. I'm certain they'll utilize her.† â€Å"But will she do it?† I inquired. â€Å"Will she truly walk out on Heaven and fight?† â€Å"They consistently do.† It was actually what Vincent had said. â€Å"Once she's invested enough energy avoided by different holy messengers and precluded the face from claiming the divine†¦well, she'll need to battle against Heaven.† â€Å"That's dumb. It resembles she's†¦I don't have the foggiest idea. Like she's being compelled to go bad.† â€Å"She settled on the choice to fall.† â€Å"She did it because of adoration! You're continually revealing to me that affection is the most superb thing in the universe.† â€Å"It is. However, a blessed messenger's adoration must be given to the force above first, at that point to humankind all in all second. It can't be presented on only one individual †human or nephilim.† â€Å"That's moronic. I think the nephilim have it right considering all us are messed up.† I gave my glass to a passing server. It had been vacant for some time. Reluctantly, I raised something that was all the while disturbing me, something this tune wouldn't allow me to overlook. â€Å"Carter†¦about Nyx. Her visions†¦are they generally true?† â€Å"As far as I probably am aware. They don't generally play out like individuals think, however. For what reason do you ask?† â€Å"No reason. All things considered, I mean, only inquisitive about what she indicated me.† â€Å"Ah. No doubt, that is tricky.† He glared. â€Å"Since she was really controlling you, it's difficult to say†¦I don't have a deep understanding of her. What'd she show you?† â€Å"It's not impor †â€Å" The music unexpectedly halted, and from over the room, I heard somebody yelling numbers. â€Å"Ten†¦nine†¦Ã¢â‚¬ I took a gander at a close by clock. Almost 12 PM. â€Å"Eight†¦seven†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Individuals were getting out clamor producers and beverages. Couples were drawing near. â€Å"Six†¦five†¦Ã¢â‚¬ Maddie gravitated toward to Seth. He inclined down toward her, looking apprehensive. â€Å"Four†¦three†¦Ã¢â‚¬ I gripped Carter's arm. I was unable to watch this. I was unable to watch Seth and Maddie kiss. â€Å"Get me out of here,† I wheezed, abruptly experiencing difficulty relaxing. â€Å"Two†¦Ã¢â‚¬ â€Å"Carter! Get me †â€Å" The world detonated in shading around me. Cold night air impacted my face. Confused, I stunned and felt Carter get my arm to consistent me. We remained on a rooftop, legitimately confronting the Space Needle. Firecrackers burst around it in showers of rainbow sparkles. The going with commotion alarmed me, and I wheezed. Farther away, different firecrackers shimmered not too far off. â€Å"Best see in the city,† kidded Carter. I gazed around, still befuddled, until I was at long last ready to triangulate our position. â€Å"We're on the bookstore.† He discharged my arm, and we remained there viewing the firecrackers for a few minutes. We were so near the Space Needle that I could before long smell the smoke as the breeze blew over us. I began to rub my arms, at that point made sure to shape-move on a coat. â€Å"A new year has a wide range of conceivable outcomes, Georgina,† Carter at last stated, eyes still on the show. â€Å"Not for me. I've lost all mine. I've lost Seth. I screwed up.† â€Å"It's not all your shortcoming. Connections are harmonious. Takes two to make them work, two to make them self-destruct. Seth has a lot of fault in this.† I shook my head. â€Å"No†¦the things he did. It was my fault.† â€Å"You're feeling the loss of the master plan, Daughter of Lilith. You're overlooking Niphon's job. What was he attempting to do?† â€Å"Ruin my life,† I said harshly. â€Å"He had a section, no doubt, yet he confused what I'd just messed up.† â€Å"Why? Why'd he do it?† â€Å"Because he despises me.† Carter moaned. â€Å"You're not getting it.† I moved in the direction of him. â€Å"What do you mean? What more is there to get?† â€Å"Only so much I can let you know. Just so much I can interfere.† He fell quiet as an especially flashy eruption of silver shimmers lit the night sky. The shop discussion with Hugh returned to me. â€Å"Did†¦did he truly mess something up with my agreement? Is it flawed?† â€Å"That's your side's business. I can't let you know anyt

Hindu Temple in The Woodlands - Free Essay Example

I visited the Hindu temple in The Woodlands, while I was there a festival was going on for the Hindu holiday, Diwali. The outside of the temple was decorated with flags and colorful decorations. When I went in in saw many people dressed in traditional South Asian clothing, such as saris and lungis, but some people were also dressed in american clothing as well. For the festival there were multiple stalls which all depicted the Hindu culture displaying different gods that make up the religion. Most stalls had paintings or statues of the Hindu gods, others had accustomed South Asian clothing and food. There was also a main place outside that had a large statue of a god and people would go there and pray to or offer the statue a variety of snacks and drinks. The different statues represented different deities of the Hindu religion. I also took a tour of the temple while there was a service going on, before we entered we had to take off our shoes, everyone was sitting on the floor, behind the Hindu priest or at the different statues which represented different deities and were carefully placed around the room. We were also not allowed to take pictures inside the temple where the puja(prayer) was happening, as it was a standard rule in every hindu temple. The Hindu priest sang a hymn, most likely from the Vedas, and followed it with some words, then everyone joined and put their hands together to sing the hymn. After they all got up rotated around the sacred statue in the temple and then offered the different gods food, water, and even flowers. When it ended, there was also a dance/ceremony going on outside where children and adults dressed up and told a story with music and instruments. Though I didnt understand the dance or the music, everyone cheered and laughed while it was happening, which gave off a soothing vibe. The service I attended was a different and new experience for me as a follower of islam. In Islam there is only one god, Allah SWT, whom his followers pray to, unlike Hinduism which consists of millions of gods. When entering the place of worship there is a distinct difference between the scenery of each, both beautiful in their own way, Islamic mosques dont portray god through pictures/statues like Hindu temples, because Islam prohibits idolatry. When praying in a mosque men and women are separated, to allow devotees to possess a clear state of mind while praying to god, which is different to the ways of a Hindu temple. Also when muslims start their prayers followers are in sync with the Imam (Islamic leader), until the prayer is over. Muslims also pray in the direction of the Kaaba, as compared to the Hindu temple where devotees pray towards the Murti, which is facing east, and while they offer prayers they face west. There are a few similarities between Islam and Hinduism. Some similarities between the two consist of actions like removing shoes before entering the place of worship and sitting on the floor, these are considered a common form of respect in both religions. Both Hinduism and Islam have certain words/prayers that are recited and multiple hand/body gestures used during ceremony. The clothing that the followers wear when going into a temple or mosque are similar as well, in both religions men and women dress modestly and abjectly. The religious texts are also similar, the Vedas and Quran are both collections of holy words written that set a guideline for each religion, which are also read during each service. My experience visiting the Hindu temple was a time of joyful observation. I learned many things that I was not exposed to in the past. I was surprised to see many similarities between the Islamic and Hindu services and the religions in general, but there were also a few key differences of course. Without this experience, I would have not been as knowledgeable as I am currently on the Hindu religion and practices.

SCHOOL KNOWN FOR BEING A HOTBED OF GANGLAND AND ACTIVITIES. Nowadays, the gangsterism issues happened in school was the hot topic in Malaysia. The social phenomenon of gangsterism has shown to increase the rate of vandalism threatening and drug addicts among the teenagers (Utusan Malaysia 1998). Nowadays, gangsters are a threat to society and people. According to the Oxford dictionary, the term of Gangsters can be described as a member of a group of violent criminals and gangsterism can be described as the use of tactics associated with gangsters, as intimidation or violence, in order to achieve something. Besides, gangsters are the social phenomenon which occurs widely among student in our country and with this rapid increase of this problem, gangsterism can give a lot of negative impact towards student who get involves in these gangland activities. Well, it may cause their future become dark or spend their future in the prison. We must solve this issues happened among school because school is the place for student to get educated and learn something that good for their future. Whatever, when this issues happened we should stop it right now through any types of solution. For example, education minister should encourage student to fill their time with useful activities such as sport, social activities and other, parents must notify the school or the police if you suspect that a family member engaged in gangsterism in school, school should strict the school rules and others. According the statistical figure show by Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during the Parliamentary session on June 9, 2010 had showed the number of students who involved with gangsterism. From the figure, we found that the number of students nearly doubled since 2005. It begins with 32 cases recorded and the numbers reach its high peak on 2008 with the value of 81. Although the number had slightly decreased to 60 cases in 2009 but the number still considered high compared to the earlier cases recorded in 2005. Then, a figure which provided by ACP Amar Singh Sidhu on his journal title, Journal of the Kuala Lumpur Royal Malaysia Police College, No.4 on 2005, it reveal that majority of delinquents detained in the rehabilitation center was from India races with the number of 316 people. On the other hand, both Malay and Chinese represent the similar number with 111 people for each race to be detained. In this globalization, everything has changed including social issues. Therefore, we can found that problems arising among the youth are at the alarming state. Most of the teenagers that involved in gangsterism are getting younger and younger, probably from the ages of ten to sixteen years old. Theres many factor to lead the teenagers step in the path of gangsterism. 1. Cause of the problem. First the main factors is student is influence by the surrounding. Majority of people think that gangsterism is caused by the students themselves. Well, based on the article, I found that these facts were actually causes by the surrounding matters of the teenagers. Such like the peoples they met in daily, the activity they used to do after school, and the relationship between students and their family. The purpose of students is to attract others attention and to protect them because they feel alone, lack of attention and caring from others. So they started to do some gangsters activities to the environment just trying to attract other peoples attention. Therefore, they behave badly at school and not afraid of school rules and after school they like to loiter around the school compound with other youths from outside. In this case, they success to attract other people attention to afraid of them. I also find that parents also is one of the reason why student involve in gangterism in school. Some students are not good in social activities and they are bore with the family members. Therefore, they join gangsterism because wanted to attract others attention and no longer feel alone. This idea probably because of their parents are busy with own work or teenager or student are from single parent family, so they are lack of concerned by their parents. Student or teenagers are too desire to get attention and caring that could not get from parents or elder when they start to feel helpless and lonely. This is the reason why they join gangsterism. Though join the gangsterism they can do everything they want and not lonely at all, what I want to said is they cant get love from parents but he or she can get it from gangsters. Next, caused by school mates and friends. Based on the study by in most case, those who involves in gang activities are influenced by their school mates and friends who is also involved in such of activities. Their friends lead them to do the gangs activities such as extort money from others, fighting with the others gang members and received payment from threatening others. During the period, teenagers are very sensitive. In order to they want get respect from their friends, they join the gangs. So, the teenagers are affected by their friends and start to do some gangs activities with them in school. Then they will bully the others students in school or after school. It can be proved that by the article given, an officer from the Klang South IPD said the brazen behavior of some students and youths showing their affiliation with gangsters at schools was nothing more than a way to attract the attention of potential recruits. They want to impress on other students their capability to be bad, as they know it appeals to those going through puberty and showing signs of teen rebelliousness, he said. He added that those involved were believed to be from Gang 24, Gang 21 and Gang 08. In this situation, the gangs have such not logically rules to stop the students who wants to leaves. It can be proved by the article free Malaysia todays 2017, students in some of schools in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya can join the gangs as low as RM 30, according to child rights activist James Nayagam. He said that normally the gangsters will timid student who will look for lonely, timid students from som e of the lower-performing classes and offer them protection. Then, the catch is that students have to belong to that particular gang in order to be protected and membership costs RM 30. Besides that when students join the gangs, he or she have responsibility to participate in any fights, no matter in or outside the school. Then if you want to leaves the gangs you must paid a fine about RM 2000. This have make the students who join it and cant leave the gangs as well. Nowadays, multimedia also will influence student to get involved with gangsterism in school. Multimedia such as internet, television and radio are very popular and common among to the teenagers. However, there are many dramas and movies that show out gangsters activities and some even built the character of the gangster as a hero. It had influence the teenagers or students start to copy the character in the gangsters movie and learn some bad attitude and critical thinking even though in school area. The best example of gangsters movies which produced in Malaysia is KL gangsters, this movies had clearly showed that the action/behavior of a gangsters, reason why a person will join gangsters. Its maybe will bring some moral values for the person who had watches the movies but it also will miss guided the student to learn that gangsters action in school to show off their bad attitude for their friends, and may encouraged them to join gangs members. 2. Constructive proposal for the resolution. News Strait Times reported about 2005 cases investigated from year 2009 to July 2010. There is an increase of five percent compared to 2008. Until this 21st century, we still can found that these issues happen among students. Therefore, gangsterism is still a biggest problem in school. It can distract the students. Many cases involved money and these make the parents worried. Here I would like to make some constructive proposal for the resolution to prevent gangsterism happen in school. Based on the passages I had write above, gangsterism is caused by many factors. No matter caused by surrounding, parents, friends or media. This issues brings a lot of negative effects to the teenagers and the society. So to stop it, parents, educators and community should be aware of what is going on among the youths. Though there are various psychological and physical factors that caused a person to choose to become a gang member, so parents should give their children with love, respect, caring and always give some attention on their behavior and provide their children with a good religious and moral background. Thus, parents also need to encourage them to join some healthy social activities such as sports, do some social activities with friends. Besides, the parents also can set a curfew for their own children so they dont go back home lately and avoid them to visiting discos, snooker and gaming centers because there got many unhealthy activities and gang members. Besides, the school counselor should short list the students who have problems and make sure the student attend counseling programs with full discipline. The programs must be continuous and if the cases are serious then the students have send to rehabilitation center to ensure that they realize of their mistakes and know what they are doing. Secondly, to prevent gangsterism is to carry out the stern action such as suspension and expulsion. Students who repeatedly doing the same mistakes will be send to the Principal for further action and cooperation with the police when students are involved in in crime. Police can take action against the students can charge them under Juvanna section because even teachers are afraid of these gangs. Moving the student to a different school wont help matter as often there will be members from the same gangs waiting in others schools for him. Police also need to do more patrol activities around the school to avoid the ruckus appeared around the school and caught them for investigate. Though this action, the gangsters will afraid and will disappear around the school and less influence the students and disturb the hawker. According to the article free Malaysia today, Nayagam, who is also a former Malaysian Human Rights Commission ( Suhakam ) commissioner, said that what seemed to help was police presence as well as dialogues about human rights in the school. He said he learn that the presence of a police patrol car helps a lot because when he working in Suhakam, he found that when their conduct human rights sessions with the schools and it goes on record, the rate of bullying drops by 30%. Anyway, school also need to organize some talk or curriculum for students to prevent them get involves in ganglands activities such as a talk Say No to Bully which had held at police training centre in August 10, 2017. 3. Self-reflections on this current issues. Last but not least, as a student we should always get rid of gangland activities even though your classmates or friends had invited you to join gang members. For those students who join the gang members, should wake up right now before too late. As a student, we should know what we want to do and not became gangster because we think it cool and brave. We should know gangster was a biggest trouble for every country. It had disturbed our economic development, safety, and may lead to death if seriously. Its my personal thinking, I feel weird why in this 21st century why students or teenagers still have desired to join the gangs member. I think that every person have to handle this issues seriously to prevent this issues happened again. Why? It not funny at all, because its dangerous, and involves in crime, and this issues have been arise in school already today. Based on the article given, I believe that SMK Sri Andalas will take action in this issues and renew or strict the school rules in better way to get rid of this gangland activities happen in school again. Parents also need to guide their children as well as possible and correct their behavior in anytime. Then, police play the main role in avoid any gangsters activities are held around school to avoid them invite students to join them though increase the patrol activities or others specific actions. I hope that the gangsterism issues will disappears as soon as possible even though this issues in still under control, but we have to give attention to the figures and we cannot let this gangsterism culture go out of control. We need to put a stop to it and dont take it lightly for our beloved countrys future. References I.academic text references. 1.The New Oxford dictionary of english (ODE) , 1 August 2010. Online Shopping Is More Effective Than Conventional Shopping

(ARTICLE AND PARAGRAPH NUMBER) â€Å"Being busy with work, and as a mom, I m a big fan of online shopping† - Kirsty Gallacher Online shopping had gone into business as early as 1992. The number of people that used online shopping had gone up when people started to gain ownership of personal computers. In 2007, 875 million people had at least made one online purchase that year. It continued to grow after that it had been recorded that 9 percent of the United States had been purchasing items online. With the creation of the World Wide Web and a browser sites like Amazon and Ebay had started to come into play. Most of the earliest shoppers were males who know some things about computers and the way they worked, while time passed by in 2001†¦show more content†¦Online shopping is going to be more effective than conventional shopping because it saves consumers money. Clark Wendel from Cesi Solutions proposes that shopping online helps the consumer save money and how one can avoid spending more money than they’re supposed to â€Å"Shopping online helps you maintain your budget: Brick-and-mortar s tores are laced with deception and hidden gimmicks to entice you to spend money. Stores are commonly laid out with expensive products placed at eye level so you’re more likely to notice them. Look at the lower and higher shelves—you’ll often see the lower-cost items there. According to TIME, retailers often draw you in with enticing scents and offer you free samples and food to cloud your judgment and to keep you in the store longer. You avoid all the drama and save money when you shop online. You don’t have to worry about being tricked into busting your budget by buying something that wasn’t on your shopping list.† This is important because when shopping online you are able to still save money because you are not in that â€Å"trap† of being shown the most expensive and nicer looking items so you’re more convinced to buy it, when online shopping you just look for the items you need and don’t need to be distracted. Afghanistan Americas Attempt to Abolish the Taliban...

Afghanistan: Americas Attempt to Abolish the Taliban In an age when mankind has the ability to completely annihilate itself through nuclear combat, war can be a more terrifying and powerful thought than ever before. Unfortunately, because of the extent of the actions that the Taliban has committed against both America and its own followers, the United States’ war against terrorism seems to be a necessity. I do feel, however, as if there are many things that can be done by the American government in the near future to peacefully approach a more civil and politically involved Afghanistan. Although my feelings on a war against terrorism are mixed, I do feel that significant actions must be taken in order to restrict the spread of†¦show more content†¦War brings out the brutality in men and leads to the death of soldiers and innocent bystanders. War is expensive and has historically led to the failure of stable economies. However, I do believe that the United States is justified in going to war in Afghanistan. The Tal iban’s terrorist acts against us have completely stripped Americans of a sense of security that, in my opinion, they, as human beings, are entitled to. Tens of thousands lost relatives and loved ones in the bombings of September 11th. Many commuters now feel unsafe using planes as a mode of transportation. Business executives in large cities now think twice before going to entering their offices in the top of skyscrapers. So although I do not agree with a country murdering its enemies, I think that America has no other choice at this point. I think the first thing that America needs to do in order to bring peace to Afghanistan is to stop the spread of the Taliban. Whether or not the war will accomplish this or not is hard for anyone to say right now, but if it does not, something must be done to end the radical Islamic group’s tyranny. This would improve the quality of life for many Afghanis; women would not be forced to wear full-body garments, innocent people would not be beaten in the streets for disobeying the Taliban’s rules, and people would not be publicly executed in gaming fields. Sigmund Freud A Scientific Theory - 956 Words

Sigmund Freud was one of the great psychologist whose theories are still studied today. He studied the human mind more thoroughly than any other psychologist who came before him. Sigmund Freud has influenced different areas such as: psychology, art, literature, and even how people think and make choices today. Freud is said to be the founding father of the psychodynamic perspective and believed that most human behavior is caused by dark, unpleasant, unconscious impulses pressing for expression (King). When Freud came up with psychoanalysis he discovered a new science and incorporated a new scientific method of dealing with the mind and mental illnesses. â€Å"[Psychoanalysis] has the appearance of being not just a scientific theory but an enormously strong one, with the capacity to accommodate, and explain, every possible form of human behavior,† (Thornton). If a theory is compatible with all possible observations it is unscientific because it is not falsifiable (Thornton). Fr eud did a self-analysis and that is where he came up with the Oedipus complex, because he related his inner thoughts to those of Oedipus. Since Freud’s theories are said to not be scientific since they cannot be falsifiable, his Oedipus complex can also be said to be falsifiable. According to Freud the four positions of a child in Oedipus complex: first, the child identifies the father as subject, or identifies the mother as subject. The, An Unprecedented Planetary Emergency Essay - 1249 Words

Earth is home to millions of species. Just one dominates it. Us. Our cleverness, our inventiveness, and our activities have modified almost every part of our planet. In fact, we are having a profound impact on it. Indeed, our cleverness, our inventiveness, and our activities are now the drivers of every global problem we face. And every one of these problems is accelerating as we continue to grow towards a global population of 10 billion. In fact, I believe we can rightly call the situation we re in right now an emergency, an unprecedented planetary emergency. We humans emerged as a species about 200,000 years ago. In geological time, that is incredibly recent. Just 10,000 years ago, there were one million of us. By 1800, just over 200 years ago, there were 1 billion of us. By 1960, 50 years ago, there were 3 billion of us. There are now over 7 billion of us. By 2050, your children, or your children s children, will be living on a planet with at least 9 billion other people. Sometime towards the end of this century, there will be at least 10 billion of us. Possibly more. We got to where we are now through a number of civilizations and society-shaping events, most notably the agricultural revolution, the scientific revolution, and the industrial revolution. By 1980, there were 4 billion of us on the planet. Just 10 years later, in 1990, there were 5 billion of us. By this point, initial signs of the consequences of our growth were starting to show. The Grapes Of Wrath Essays (892 words) - U.S. Route 66, Dust Bowl

The Grapes of Wrath John Steinbeck's novel, The Grapes of Wrath has left much specifically untold about the authors true intentions on this book. His epic chronicle has been described as being "Written with passionate conviction" (Dorothy Parker). This passionate conviction has led John Steinbeck into mastering bold dramatization. His skills at the art of dramatization in literature was not solely used in The Grapes of Wrath, but also used in another of his twisted and possibly controversial works called Of Mice and Men. One of John Steinbeck's main and possibly most obvious themes, is the hostility and frequent hatred between the migrant workers and the already socially and financially established Californians. There are many examples in the book that show not only that Steinbeck thought that it was an issue to be concerned with, but also it showed his thoughts and feelings towards the subject. Three examples of this theme are shown during encounters with other people that have already been there, in the corollary chap Along the way to California the Joad's encountered other people that had already been to California and were now returning. These people, like the ragged man with the sunburned face from the road-side camp described on page 242. He had had children that died because wages were too low and work was too scarce to afford food for his children and wife. His story was one of pain and despair, also his story showed the cruelty and inhumane treatment which the California land owners displayed towards the migrant workers. This grim story of the broken man didn't discourage the Joad's from parting from the set course. Later on inside the Californian border the Joads stop by a river. Tom and his Father find a spot to go swimming where they are promptly joined on page 263 by two men, a man and his son, who asked if they may also partake in swimming with Tom and his Father. The men start talking and it turns out that the other two men have just come from California. They tell a story not extremely unlike the other story which the man at the road-side camp described. Their story describes the conditions as very uncomfortable. Subsequently the Joads paid no head to this warning either. Hence, they traveled on, only to meet up with (on page 274) a very dispassionate police officer. This gave the Joads a first hand sip of the general mood that Californians had for these migrant workers. The policeman treated the migrants with little or no respect, seemed to just as soon see them drop off the face of the earth than see them come into California. The Corollary chapter Nineteen deals with the history of California. How it was settled by the feverish Americans. Through these descriptions we can start to understand the Californians view on why they dislike the migrant workers with such conviction. The chapter describes the initial owners of the land, the Mexicans, as being "weak and fed". This description would suggest that the Mexican's were well fed and content to live freely on the land with little desire to need more. Thus they were in little position to try and stop the onslaught of American's who wanted the land much more than the Mexicans did, and were too weak to stop them from doing so. This lead to the turning over of the land to the American's in the California region. This same land was kept by the same families and worked with much success. So much success that they needed to work only part of it to stay leisurably comfortable, financially. Therefore the burning desire for the land diminished. This is where the migrant workers come in. The Californians view of the workers are very much the same as the Mexican's must have thought of the Californians when there land was taken over. Consequently the Californians, being afraid that history might repeat itself and the workers may take over the land, the Californians tried to discourage the growth in population of migrant workers as much as possible. Any way that they could, legal or not. The killing of Jim Casy is an example of the cruel behavior of the Californians. They

Barack Obama - Second Weekly Transition Address

Barack Obama Second President-Elect Weekly Transition Address Broadcast 15 November 2008 Today the leaders of the G-20 nations, a group that includes the worlds largest economies, are gathering in Washington to seek solutions to the ongoing turmoil in our financial markets. Im glad President Bush has initiated this process, because our global economic crisis requires a coordinated global response. And yet, as we act in concert with other nations, we must also act immediately here at home to address Americas own economic crisis. This week, amid continued volatility in our markets, we learned that unemployment insurance claims rose to their highest levels since September 11th, 2001. Weve lost jobs for ten straight months nearly 1.2 million jobs this year, many of them in our struggling auto industry. And millions of our fellow citizens lie awake each night wondering how theyre going to pay their bills, stay in their homes, and save for retirement.Make no mistake: This is the greatest economic challenge of our times. And while the road ahead will be long, and the work will be hard, I know that we can steer ourselves out of this crisis, because here in America we always rise to the moment, no matter how hard. And I am more hopeful than ever that America will rise once again. But we must act right now. Next week, Congress will meet to address the spreading impact of the economic crisis. I urge them to pass at least a down-payment on a rescue plan that will create jobs, relieve the squeeze on families, and help get the economy growing again. In particular, we cannot afford to delay providing help for the more than one million Americans who will have exhausted their unemployment insurance by the end of this year. If Congress does not pass an immediate plan that gives the economy the boost it needs, I will make it my first order of business as President. Even as we dig ourselves out of this recession, we must also recognize that out of this economic crisis comes an opportunity to create new jobs, strengthen our middle class, and keep our economy competitive in the 21st century. And that starts with the kinds of long-term investments that weve neglected for too long. That means putting two million Americans to work rebuilding our crumbling roads, bridges, and schools. It means investing 150 billion dollars to build an American green energy economy that will create five million new jobs, while freeing our nation from the tyranny of foreign oil, and saving our planet for our children. It means making health care affordable for anyone who has it, accessible for anyone who wants it, and reducing costs for small businesses. And it also means giving every child the world-class education they need to compete with any worker, anywhere in the world. Doing all this will require not just new policies but a new spirit of service and sacrifice, where each of us resolves to pitch in and work harder and look after not only ourselves, but each other. If this financial crisis has taught us anything, its that we cannot have a thriving Wall Street while Main Street suffers. In this country we rise or fall as one nation, as one people. And thats how we will meet the challenges of this time together. Thank you. Source:Â  https://www.loc.gov/ Source: https://en.wikipedia.org

Case Studies - Essay Example The key market players of the pharmaceutical industry are the companies originating from USA, Japan, Europe, China, and Brazil. The medicines manufactured by the leading pharmaceutical companies are prevalent across the globe. USA is regarded as the world’s largest market of pharmaceutical and is the also the world leader in the Bio pharmaceutical research. 80 Percent of the research and development in pharmaceuticals is conducted in the laboratories of USA (Select USA, 2013). However, USA is largely dependent on the import of generic drugs and 40 percent of the pharmaceutical is consumed in USA (Select USA, 2013). It is believed that the present market situation of Biologic, over the counter (OTC), and generic drugs reflect the potential of the pharmaceutical market (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2011). As per the reports of House of Commons, UK around 650 million prescriptions are prescribed by the general practitioners of United Kingdom (UK) itself (House of Commons, 200 5). The National Health Service which is one of the leading medical organizations of UK sells medicines worth ?7 billion every year and 80 percent of these medicines are manufactured by branded companies (House of Commons, 2005). In the UK the pharmaceuticals industry is regarded to be the most profitable sector after Finance and Tourism. Majority of the pharmaceutical company’s revenue is generated from the USA because it is the world’s largest free pricing market for pharmaceuticals. Marketing Environment Analysis The marketing environment analysis will help us in indentifying the factors that affect the company directly and indirectly. The macro environmental factors affect the activities of the company directly and the micro environmental factors affect the activities of the company indirectly. The micro environmental factors constitute of environmental factors like suppliers, distributors, competitors etc. The macro environmental factors constitute of demographic, economic, socio cultural, political, physical and legal factors. The PEST analysis will be instrumental in determining the external threats and opportunities faced by the pharmaceutical industry in the USA. Political Factors Department of Health The US department of health is a government body which regularly monitors the activities of the pharmaceutical companies. The main task of this government body is to scrutinize the license, clinical trials etc of the pharmaceutical companies. Economic The medicines manufactured and sold by the pharmaceutical companies are expensive because these companies incur huge amount of research and development costs. Post recession majority of the established pharmaceutical companies have closed down their research sites because the cost of research and development is too high and the profit earned by these companies is minuscule (The Guardian, 2013). It is observed that the most of the pharmaceutical companies are incurring losses due to the current economic slowdown (Gallagher, 2012). Socio Cultural Factors The sales of the medicines in the USA are largely influenced by the ageing population and the increasing obesity among the youth. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Essay -- Psychology, Rational Behavioral

Brief history of the theory and theorist. In it's simplest form, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, (or CBT as it will be referred to from here on out), refers to the approach of changing dysfunctional behaviors and thoughts to realistic and healthy ones. CBT encompasses several types of therapy focusing on the impact of an individual's thinking as it relates to expressed behaviors. Such models include rational emotive therapy (RET), rational emotive behavioral therapy (REBT), behavior therapy (BT), Rational Behavior Therapy (RBT), Schema Focused Therapy, Cognitive therapy (CT). Most recently a few other variations have been linked to CBT such as acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) (Harrington and Pickles, 2009). The main aspect that all of these branches of therapy share, is that our thoughts relate to our external behaviors. External events and individuals do not cause the negative thoughts or feelings, but, instead the perception of events and situations is the root cause (National Association of Cognitive Behavioral Therapists, 2010). The idea of thoughts as they connect to behaviors can be traced back to Epictetus (55 AD -135 AD , Greek Stoic and Philosopher). He stated, â€Å"Men are not disturbed by things, but by the view which they take of them (Epictetus and Higgonson, 1944). Epictetus also wrote, â€Å"Do not strive for things occurring to occur as you wish, but wish things occurring as they occur, and you will flow well (Epictetus and Lebell, 1994).† In other words, see things for what they really are and good health will follow (Romaneck, 2007).† Another belief was that a sage or teacher was immune to unhappiness and misf... ...cur via story, instruction or through music enhancement (Deggs & Davis, 49. 2011). Homework for CBT clients may include reading suggested articles or books, taking surveys, journaling, recording thoughts and challenging negative automatic thoughts, creating timetables and graded exposures (slowing bringing feared items to the forefront). Guided discovery, structured sessions, homework and collaboration. Socratic reasoning/questioning (open questioning). Challenging NATS (Negative Automatic Thoughts), challenging core beliefs. ERP (exposure and response prevention). Cognitive behavioral therapy uses the ABC model. A stands for action or activating event, B represents beliefs or thoughts that are created from the activating event, and C represents consequences or how we react to the event. Homework is a key component of this therapy.

Apple Online Store Strategy

GROUP B _Choose three core competencies of Apple Inc. How did these competencies allow Apple to make sense out of the recorded music industry in the early 200’s? How did they set the company up for robust first user advantage? How stable do those advantage seem now? (See Jay Barney’s Looking Inside for Competitive Advantage; Zook’s Finding Your Next Core Business). As the Internet based recorded music segment continues to evolve into other devices, will Apple’s competencies continue to generate advantage versus suc competitors as Research in Motion and Dell Inc.? Apple today is the leading player in the internet music industry with over 6 billion songs downloaded since the launch of its iTunes online music store, which today contains more than 10 million songs. Apple introduced iTunes and its online music store in 2001 when there were several major players, such as Amazon and Napster, competing for the market. However, Apple was able to outperform these co mpetitors with its three main core competencies, software, retailing and branding. In 2003, Apple introduced the iTunes online music store that allowed customers to purchase and download songs directly from the store to their computer through iTunes, and then transfer them directly to their iPods. By that time, most of Apple’s competitors offered their customers songs through subscriptions, however they did not provide customers full control of the songs they purchased, i. e. , songs purchased would be lost once customer no longer subscribed. Apple was able to offer customer a whole new way of selling songs to customers. They allowed customers to buy songs like CDs, cassettes in store and never had their songs lost since there were no subscriptions required. In addition, Apple also allowed the customer to preview the songs they intended to purchase in order to avoid downloading the wrong songs. In order to be able to allow customers to purchase songs for a low cost, Apple managed to negotiate a landmark deal with biggest five music companies in the world, Warner, Universal, BMG, Sony and EMI. Songs offered by Apple were using DRM (Digital Right Management) technology to prevent the songs to be unlimited shared. However, the songs could be used to burn unlimited CDS and transferred to unlimited iPod. Since 2001, Apple had gained tremendous branding reputation for its iPod MP3 players. Since then, it has become the most popular MP3 player in the world. When iTunes online music store was introduced in 2003, Apple had provided an extremely convenient way for legally purchasing songs and transferring them directly to customers’ iPods. Therefore, Apple’s iTunes online music store was widely welcomed and accepted by a large number of customers. Apple was a pioneer in combining online music store and music management in one software that allow customers to conveniently purchase and manage their music. Since iTunes was introduced along with the first iPods, it has been well known for simplicity and user-friendly interface. Therefore, iTunes had largely contributed to the success of Apple’s online music store and the elimination of its competitors. As the internet based recorded music segment continues to evolve into other devices, Apple has taken another new strategies in selling music to customers. In June 2009, Apple has more than 10 million songs in its online music store, and since 2006, Apple started to take DRM off their songs and offer customers DRM-free songs. Eight million songs was DRM-free since June 2009 and Apple has been making effort to offer all of their songs free of DRM. Today, Apple does not have only iPod as their MP3 players, but they also have other devices such as iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, that can all utilize the iTunes online music store. The introduction of iPhone and iPod Touch has provided Apple an opportunity to expand its iTunes store beyond a simple online music store to become an online entertainment store, which offers numerous varieties of movies, music, TV episodes, games, applications and books. This has made Apple become the leading brand in innovative technology and its brand ranking has been going up in recent years. ITunes itself also has gone through remarkably improvement in order to offer customers a simpler, more interesting and interactive way of browsing the online store. In general, despite intense competitions from other player such as Research in Motion and Dell Inc. , Apple has been able to outperform them and offer customers the most unique and efficient way of purchasing music and other online entertainment contents. This has been proved by growing stock prices, and increasing profit figures since Apple iTunes online music store was introduced in 2003.

The Best Sandwich Ever - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 1014 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2017/09/20 Category Advertising Essay Type Argumentative essay Did you like this example? The Best Sandwich Ever The first sandwich was made in 1st Century B. C. by the famous rabbi, Hillel the Elder, during Passover. The sandwich was a remembrance of the Jews’ suffering before their deliverance from Egypt. This wonderful sandwich consisted of a mixture of chopped nuts, apples, spices and wine on two matzos, and was to be eaten with bitter herbs. Although the rabbi’s sandwich may not seem appetizing to the tastes buds of todays greater community we are grateful for his idea because now we have the creations every little kid holds in his/her lunch box today. The sandwich world has evolved into sandwiches as simple as the favored bologna sandwich to ones as complicated as the sandwich I like to call the SASS or the Super Awesome Supreme Sandwich. Sandwiches are filled with millions of flavors, and have different textures that make it the most popular item in a lunch boxes all over the world. The most important part of the sandwich dining experience is the fillers of the sandwich, starting with the meat. In the Super Awesome Supreme Sandwich there is one main meat that controls the rest of flavors, this meat is called salami. Not just any type of salami though, the salami in this sandwich has to be spicy and colorful. This salami is filled with peppers of all different types. Pepper is something that you have to be veracious with, too much and it’ll over power the sandwich, not enough then the meat will just be taking up space. In addition to the pepper the salami has to have a slightly pungent taste of garlic and salt. Garlic and salt will balance the flavor of the pepper and allow for one to explore new taste buds. The garlic and salt allow for a tangy contrast to the pepper making just these few layers of meat make your mouth water. In addition the taste of the salami the look of it is very important. Each seasoning has a different look and allows the meat to become a rainbow or color and flavor. The meat itself should be a red-orange color with black and white spots. These spots are where each entire piece of flavor is kept. In addition to meat there has to be veggies in this sandwich to add color and crunch. The Super Supreme has two very important veggies, shredded lettuce and ripe red tomatoes. Lettuce in this sandwich has to be freshly washed with still a little bit of water on it to contain the pristine taste. This lettuce is of a mellow, hardy, green texture. The heirloom tomatoes are vibrantly red with juicy seeds and firm skin. The color combination of the Italian salami, the hardy lettuce and the red heirloom tomatoes bring an aesthetic and redolence to this experience. The next important part of this sandwich is the condiments that add a zing of flavor and serve as an accoutrement to the palate of the diner. Many would slather on a mayonnaise but here an aioli is lightly applied to the bottom exterior casing of this sandwich. Typically an aioli is a mixture of mayonnaise a nd garlic but accompanied with French’s Mustard the combination provides color, moisture and flavor. Too completely accessories the Super Supreme there must be a melody of complimenting herbs and fruits. Olives, yellow bell pepper, rosemary, thyme, basil, marjoram, and oregano each finely chopped and drizzled throughout the sandwich allow for an intellectual taste of Italy. The Super Awesome Supreme Sandwich casing gives off the first impression and holds together a tantalizing dining experience. A sourdough loaf is chosen as it will provide a sturdy and stable coat for the Super Supreme. When selecting a loaf one must use all of the senses but one to test the freshness of the bread; the sense of touch to check firmness of the bread, the sense of smell to acquire the aroma of a virgin loaf, the sense of sight to view any imperfections and the sense of hearing to survey for a robust crunch. Once one is tempted to use the sense of taste, the correct loaf has been selected. N ote that this loaf is cut into slices offering an open face three by five canvas that has been toasted to perfection. A perfectly toasted loaf is found when the bread is browned with slightly darker columns seen, or grill marks. The crust that has now become crunchy and darkened will compliment the inner bread’s light crisp and browning. The Super Awesome Supreme Sandwich is a sandwich of many layers and pieces such as that of an outfit of a sophisticated lady. She always has her coat and purse, the bread. Her coat is what keeps her warm and safe, while the purse is where everything is held that she may need throughout the day. The bread holds everything together, keeps it warm, safe and easy to carry. Also a lady looks put together, her outfit is always clean and color coordinated, the meat. The outfit is always appropriate for the occasion never over or underdressed and ready for anything. The meat put inside a sandwich should never over power the rest of the ingredie nts inside but still be the main aspect of the meal. In addition she always has her accessories, the condiments. The accessories are where her true colors are shown and the entire outfit is matched together. Condiments are like accessories because they complete a sandwich, without them it would just be incomplete. The smear that is applied is like the shoes, something absolutely necessary and if carefully chosen can define a sandwich. Fruits and veggies are like the earrings, something a lady should never leave home without. The different flavors of the sandwich made by rabbi Hillel the Elder has evolved just as the attire of a lady. With every century the variety of flavors and textures expands allowing for each generation to venture out and have a creation of their own. The Super Awesome Supreme Sandwich is a prime example.
